What is Cultural Competency?
Cultural competency is associated with and was recognized by the general and mental health industry and is the human behavior that incorporates communication, action, beliefs, thoughts and values of ethnicity, ethnic background, religious beliefs and social values (Luster, 2017).
Cultural competence is action oriented through the capacity to effectively function and generate change. There are seven tenets of cultural competency: learning, acknowledge, awareness, knowledge, engage and integrate, revise and refine, and cultural competent (Gooden & Norman-Major, 2012).
